<한글초록>
종교개혁 500주년을 맞아 이 논문은 칼빈의 제왕시 주석 방법론을 검토 및 재평가하는 것이다. 제한된 지면상 본 연구를 위해 시편 2, 72, 89, 110, 132편을 선별했다. 본 연구는 칼빈의 이들 시편에 대한 주석 방법을 문법적/문예적, 역사적, 신학적 해석 방법론의 관점에서 분석한다. 아울러 칼빈의 적용 방법까지 분석한다.
이 연구는 다음과 같은 세부적인 내용을 분석한다.
(1) 칼빈의 명료한 문자적 의미의 추구, 어원 연구, 단어의 용례, 문맥, 원어 연구와 같은 그의 문법적 해석 방법;
(2) 칼빈의 문예적 해석과 의인법, 은유법, 비유적 표현, 이미지의 파악, 환유법, 제유법, 과장법 등과 같은 문예적 범주의 사용;
(3) 칼빈의 저자에 대한 이해, 역사적 배경 연구, 본문의 원래 역사적 의미와 아울러 신약성경과의 연결 방법과 같은 그의 역사적 해석 방법;
(4) 모형론적 해석, 예언적 해석, 그리스도 중심적 해석, 성경으로 성경을 해석하는 방법 등과 같은 칼빈의 신학적 해석 방법;
(5) 마지막으로 칼빈이 주석 작업을 마친 후에 분문의 메시지를 얼마나 효율적으로 청중들의 상황에 적용하고 있는지도 분석한다.
연구 결과 칼빈의 성경해석 방법은 오늘날에도 사용할 수 있는 유용한 주석 방법들임을 깨닫게 되었다. 칼빈의 원어 및 어휘 연구, 문예적 분석, 원래 역사적 맥락에서의 의미를 먼저 찾는 역사적 해석과 모형론, 예언과 성취, 그리스도 중심의 해석 등과 같은 신학적 해석 방법도 오늘날까지 유용한 방법들이다.
그러나 신약의 의미를 과도하게 구약본문의 번역이나 해석에 도입하는 것이나 그의 주석에 가끔씩 나타나는 원어 해석의 부정확성 등은 그의 주석을 사용하는 독자들이 조심해야 할 부분들이다.
<Abstract>
A Study on Calvin’s Exegetical Methodology for Royal Psalms

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, this paper was written to analyze and evaluate Calvin’s exegetical methodology of the Psalms, with specific focus on the royal psalms. Because of the limited scope of this research, Psalms 2, 72, 89, 110, and 132 were selected to be studied. This study analyzes Calvin’s commentary on these psalms, specifically on his grammatical/literary interpretation, his historical interpretation, and his theological interpretation. This study also examines Calvin’s method of application.
This study investigates the following details:
Calvin’s grammatical interpretation such as the pursuit of the plain literary sense of the word, the study of etymology, the usage of the word, the context of the word, and the study of the original language;
Calvin’s literary interpretation and usage of literary features such as personification, metaphor, figures of speech, imagery, metonymy, synecdoche, hyperbole, etc.;
Calvin’s historical interpretation, specifically in terms of how he understands the author, historical background, original meaning of the text, and its relation with the New Testament;
Calvin’s theological interpretation, which further examines typological, prophetic, Christ-centered, and inner-biblical interpretation; and
Calvin’s effective application of the message of the text to the situation of the audience when he has finished exegeting the text.
The result of this study reveals that we can still learn some of the useful exegetical methods from Calvin’s biblical interpretation. Calvin makes use of many useful tools of interpretation (which we can still learn from), such as the study of original language, and the methods of word study, literary analysis, historical interpretation seeking the original historical context, and theological interpretation including typology, promise-fulfillment, and Christ-centered interpretation.
However, the readers who use Calvin’s commentaries should discern when he overemphasizes meaning of the New Testament into the translation and interpretation of Old Testament text. The readers should also be aware of inaccuracies with Calvin’s interpretation of the original language, which occurs in his commentaries from time to time.
